Comment: Although there has been recent weakening in international cotton and cotton yarn trade, values for cotton and cotton yarn have increased substantially over the past year (as the above tables reflect). Meantime polyester staple fiber values have remained attractive in comparison to raw cotton asking prices. Recent US textiles and clothing import figures (1st 5 months 2010) reflect that imports of cotton products have increased by 14% while those of man-made fiber products increased by 18%. Accordingly, the attractiveness of polyester staple fiber (compared to cotton) does seem to be affecting consumer spending patterns in the US market...
